Phoksundo festival 11th -15th September 2020 Except for the winter months of January, February, March (magh, fagun and chait) the villages of phoksundo and the Phoksundo Lake is comfortably accessible. The timing of the festival decided to be in September. It is the best time of the year for travelers and trekkers. The trails and bridges might disrupt during monsoon. During the festival dates the problems would fix and the weather would clear up gradually and show the true beauty of nature and the autumn season.

The festival is going to held in the premises of the pristine phoksundo lake. Rigmo, the village just about five minutes away from the lake will be the host to the visitors and guests. All the accommodation will be organized by the organizers with the support and coordination from the villagers. Local dishes will be prioritized for visitors. Tradition and cultural performances (Shyapdo, Ngyunlu) from the villagers and other participants, sports event, horse riding and boating will be a major sources of entertainment during the festival.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by our representative and transferred to your hotel. Spend the day exploring the vibrant capital city and preparing for your Dolpo adventure. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Nepali dinner and a briefing about the upcoming trip.

Day 2: Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj

After an early breakfast, we’ll take a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, a city located in the southwestern region of Nepal. Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to a hotel where you can relax and prepare for the next day’s flight to Juphal.

Day 3: Fly from Nepalgunj to Juphal, Trek to Dunai

Today, we take another short domestic flight from Nepalgunj to Juphal, which offers stunning aerial views of the Himalayan peaks. Upon landing in Juphal, we begin our trek towards Dunai, the administrative headquarters of Dolpo. The trail winds through terraced fields, forests, and small villages, providing a glimpse into the local way of life. Overnight stay in Dunai.

Day 4: Trek from Dunai to Ankhe

Leaving Dunai behind, we continue our trek along the beautiful trail that follows the banks of the Thulo Bheri River. The trail takes us through pine forests and meadows, passing by several charming villages. We cross suspension bridges and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountains before reaching Ankhe, where we will spend the night.

Day 5: Trek from Ankhe to Sulighat

Our trek today takes us through a narrow gorge, ascending and descending along the trail. We walk through lush forests of pine and juniper, enjoying the serene atmosphere and occasional encounters with local wildlife. After crossing a suspension bridge, we reach Sulighat, a small village nestled on the banks of the river. Overnight stay in Sulighat.

Day 6: Trek from Sulighat to Phoksundo Lake

As we continue our trek, the landscape gradually changes, becoming more rugged and barren. We pass through the impressive gorge of Phoksundo River and emerge into the mesmerizing beauty of Phoksundo Lake. The turquoise waters of the lake, surrounded by snow-capped peaks and ancient monasteries, create a breathtaking sight. We camp near the lake and spend the evening exploring its surroundings.

Day 7: Phoksundo Lake Exploration and Festival Participation

Today is the day of the much-awaited Dolpo Phoksundo Festival. Immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere as the local community comes together to celebrate their culture and religious traditions. Witness the lively Tsechu dances, traditional music performances, and participate in the festivities. Take the time to explore the festival grounds and interact with the friendly locals. Overnight camping near Phoksundo Lake.

Day 8: Trek from Phoksundo Lake to Chepka

After bidding farewell to the festival site, we begin our trek back towards Chepka. The trail retraces our steps, offering different perspectives of the landscapes we encountered on our way up. Descending through pine forests and crossing suspension bridges, we reach Chepka, a small village where we’ll spend the night.

Day 9: Trek from Chepka to Juphal

Our trek today takes us through picturesque villages and serene forests. We gradually descend and follow the banks of the river, passing by waterfalls and terraced fields. Eventually, we arrive in Juphal, where we’ll enjoy a celebratory dinner to commemorate the completion of our trek.

Day 10: Fly from Juphal to Nepalgunj,

Fly to Kathmandu We catch an early morning flight from Juphal to Nepalgunj. Upon reaching Nepalgunj, we board a connecting flight to Kathmandu. Once back in the capital city, you can spend the rest of the day at leisure, exploring the vibrant streets, shopping for souvenirs, or simply relaxing at your hotel.

Day 11: Departure from Kathmandu

It’s time to bid farewell to Nepal as your Dolpo Phoksundo Festival trip comes to an end. Our representative will transfer you to the airport for your departure flight, carrying with you beautiful memories of the festival, the stunning landscapes, and the warm hospitality of the Dolpo region.
