Trip Overview

Pumori

Residing in the Mahalangur section of the Himalayas in the Nepal-China border just 8 kilometers towards the west of Mt. Everest, Mt Pumori is one of the most promising 7000er peaks to any aspiring Himalayan Alpinist. Named by George Mallory as ‘the mountain daughter’ derived from Sherpa language where ‘pumo’ means ‘young girl’ and Ri means ‘mountain’. A perfect choice of mountain for those preparing for 8000ers, Mt Pumori demands a high level of physical endurance and mountaineering experience. Climbers prefer the South East route for the Pumori expedition. However, the risk of avalanche always prevails during the climb.

The first successful ascent to this stunning peak was made in 1962 by Gerhard Lesner from a German-Swiss expedition team. Since then, numerous summits have been made but the first winter ascent to Pumori was only made in 2017 by Ali Sadpara from Pakistan.

The Pumori expedition starts with a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and then trekking through beautiful villages in Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Lobuche, and Gorakshep. The trek allows is to experience the rural and local lifestyle of Sherpas. We get to pass through picturesque villages with terraced farmlands, dense forests of Rhododendron and Pine slowly rising towards rocky landscapes with no vegetation. We finally reach the base camp where we prepare for the climb.

Trip Notes

Please do remember these things.

Climbers are advised to prepare and train their bodies and mind in a perfect way to adapt to the remoteness, high altitude, and distance from the families. It is also advised to carry lesser amounts of valuable belongings. Also, pack in some cotton clothes for your stay in Kathmandu while some warm ones for the Himalayas. Always keep a copy of your passport and photos with you.

Trekking and mountain climbing in the Everest Region are highly dependent on weather conditions. We try to schedule our trips at the most favorable time but in case of extreme scenarios, domestic flights to Lukla may be delayed or canceled. In cases as such, we would like to notify you that except for the total number of days in the itinerary section, expenses of other extra days shall be borne by the client himself/herself. However, 8K Expeditions will make necessary arrangements for the accommodation of porters and guides. If you wish to make alternative arrangements such as a helicopter flight to avoid flight delays, we can arrange it at a nominal extra charge.

Also, Pumori Expeditions shall not be liable for any compensation for losses due to missed International Flights but we will surely help to make necessary arrangements to minimize your loss. To avoid missing flights, we suggest keeping some flexible time frames before trip departure and after trip departure.

Also be notified that as we will be traveling in remote areas with extreme climatic conditions and geography where trails can be distorted at times, we might need to adjust our itineraries as required.  But we assure you that the quality of service shall not be compromised at any cost.

Cost of Expedition

Expedition costs vary depending on factors including: group size, royalty and permit costs in different seasons, category of hotel accommodation, numbers of Sherpa’s allocated and equipment, type of arrangement and package customization. So, we would like to discuss with our client before offering the cost. Please feel free to contact 8K Expedition for any information about in your selected package.

Thank you for joining us on our Expedition!!
